What is Hexatrust?

Hexatrust is an association of French and European leaders in cybersecurity and the trusted cloud. Its mission is to promote excellence in the digital domain by bringing together start-ups, SMEs and ETIs innovating in the cybersecurity and cloud security sectors. In addition to these best practices, we are ISO 9001 and ISO 27001:2022 certified. We are also in the process of obtaining HDS (Healthcare Data Hosting) certification and SecNumCloud certification.

High stakes

While the costs of mainframe infrastructures and their software licenses continue to rise, many companies, mainly in the banking and insurance sectors, still rely on these technologies to run their mission-critical operations in COBOL.

Maintaining and upgrading these infrastructures is becoming increasingly difficult, both because of operating costs and the lack of qualified developers on these technologies.

Furthermore, mainframe implies numerous lock-ins, creating a substantial technological debt and blocking companies from switching to more flexible, up-to-date solutions.

A French partnership in response

In response to these challenges, Clever Cloud and OCamlPro have announced a strategic partnership aimed at simplifying and securing the migration of COBOL systems to modern, open environments. In concrete terms, OCamlPro offers solutions that enable COBOL code to evolve thanks to access to a powerful, modern, open-source tool, SuperBOL, developed around the free, open-source GnuCOBOL compiler.

Thanks to this offer, users will be able to convert their code from COBOL to C, facilitating their migration in a safe and secure way, whether in a public, private or on-premise cloud.

The aim is to offer simplified migration of code to the public, private or on-premises cloud, with sovereign, high-availability hosting, and automated operational maintenance. This will enable companies to regain control of their code, their data, and their IS more broadly.

A shared vision

Clever Cloud and OCamlPro share a common vision of IT, focusing on the importance of open source, strategic autonomy of code and data in Europe, and security. Both are committed to promoting robust open source solutions, offering transparency, innovation and freedom to users.

What's more, this partnership provides numerous guarantees in terms of security, as well as data sovereignty. As two French companies, governed by French law, this partnership assures customers that their data will be protected from extra-territorial laws such as FISA.

Coming soon

Starting September, Clever Cloud and OCamlPro plan to open a joint testing environment, enabling interested companies to test SuperBOL on their code. This will enable them to discover our solution and test it at a lower cost.

OCamlPro

OCamlPro, a consultancy specializing in the design of software tools for computer languages, is the biggest French contributor to GnuCOBOL, the only completely free COBOL compiler, and is developing SuperBOL, a free, modern, reliable and high-performance environment to help migration to GnuCOBOL. Today, GnuCOBOL is a proven open-source solution, used for example by ObjectWay for its banking software, with a strong and dynamic open-source community.

As part of this activity, OCamlPro has been supporting the DGFiP (Direction Générale des Finances Publiques), since 2022, in one of its biggest COBOL modernization projects, by extending the GnuCOBOL compiler to handle extensions specific to the GCOS mainframe, without modifying the COBOL source code. Every day, OCamlPro demonstrates its ability to intervene in depth on GnuCOBOL and meet its customers' most demanding needs.

Up to €100,000 in funding for your projects

The Hyper Open X call for projects, entitled "Hyper Open Call", enables companies adopting Hyper Open X technologies to benefit from funding of up to €100,000. It is open to French SMEs, VSEs and start-ups wishing to implement a project using at least one of the technological building blocks proposed by the Hyper Open X consortium.

2 open-source bricks offered by Clever Cloud

Clever Cloud is a member of the consortium and offers 2 of the seven major technology bricks:

• Sōzu: A lightweight, extremely fast and secure reverse proxy designed for ultra-mutualized environments. Sozu enables configuration changes to be managed with zero downtime, ensuring continuous availability and optimum performance ;
• Biscuit: A tokenized solution for identity and access management (IAM) in cloud and edge computing environments. Invented at Clever Cloud and supported by a growing community of contributors, Biscuit offers security and authentication features superior to traditional solutions such as cookies, JWT and Macaroons.

What is ISO 27001 : 2022 certification?

Internationally recognised, ISO 27001 : 2022 certification is the benchmark for information security management systems (ISMS). What about future certifications?

HDS certification

We are working on obtaining "Health Data Hosting" (HDS) certification for the 6 aspects of the standard.

The "Hosting of physical infrastructure" sections:

• the provision and maintenance in operational condition of the physical infrastructure of the information system used to process health data
• the provision and maintenance in operational condition of physical sites used to host the physical infrastructure of the information system used to process health data.

The "Data-processing host" components:

• making available and maintaining in operational condition the virtual infrastructure of the health information system
• Provision and maintenance in operational condition of the information system's application hosting platform
• administering and operating the information system containing health data
• outsourced backup of health data

We are currently working with partners to offer our customers HDS hosting, certified for the first 2 aspects of the standard.

SecNumCloud certification

We are also working on obtaining SecNumCloud certification. In April 2023, Bruno Le Maire and Jean-Noël Barrot selected Clever Cloud to take part in the SecNumCloud certification support program, implemented by Bpifrance in close collaboration with the Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information (ANSSI) and the Direction Générale des Entreprises (DGE). Following this support, we have already begun the certification process, with audits done on December 2023.

Clever Cloud, French creator of deployment and hosting solutions in PaaS (Platform as a Service) mode, announces a series of strategic appointments and recruitments to continue and amplify its growth. In 2023, Clever Cloud has once again made great strides, with a significant increase in its turnover. Having recently passed the 60-strong mark, the company is welcoming new profiles to support its development, and is expanding its Management Committee.

Jean-Baptiste Piacentino has taken on the role of Vice-President in charge of alliances. He oversees strategic, technical and institutional partnerships, public relations and our commitment to data sovereignty.

David Legrand, who has been in charge of Clever Cloud's hardware solutions since March 2022, is now Vice-President in charge of the product. After helping to set up our last three points of presence in Paris, he will ensure that the development of our new software and hardware solutions remains in line with our customers' expectations and our trademark high standards, in liaison with the technical teams led by our CTO, Steven Le Roux.

Clever Cloud's development is also marked by strategic recruitments:

• Jérôme Guerrier joins the team as Sales Director, bringing valuable expertise to drive sales growth and strengthen customer relations. With 18 years' experience in telecoms and payment solutions, he brings his know-how to bear on development initiatives both in Europe and internationally.
• Horacio Gonzalez joins the company as Vice President, Developer Relations (DevRel). He plays a crucial role in strengthening ties with this community, which continues to be an essential part of the Clever Cloud ecosystem. After a technical career, Horacio went on to become DevRel and then DevRel Director for OVHcloud, making him one of the leading figures in the French IT community.
• Last but not least, the forthcoming arrival of a Human Resources Director will support the integration of the company's many employees, while preserving the corporate culture to which the teams are so attached.

As you know, you can deploy your applications and add-ons via Clever Cloud, on Health Data Hosting (HDS) certified servers, on tiers 1 and 2 of the standard, provided by OVHcloud in Roubaix. We also provide an object storage service (Cellar) from a cluster of such servers in Roubaix and Gravelines (separated by ~100 km), available as a fr-north-hdsregion.

However, we had a growing demand for an HDS zone in Gravelines. independently for applications and add-ons. So our teams worked to enable you to deploy on HDS-certified servers in this zone, from clever-tools or the Console as grahds.
